Why Does Aspirin Cross a Cell? Lab

Filed under: Uncategorized on Friday, August 19th, 2011 by | 3 Comments

Josh,

We don’t have a micropipette. I think we may not need them. If we transfer the pH-adjusted solutions to a separatory funnels before adding the ethyl acetate, you should be able to draw off the water phase without the micropipette.

I would like for you to do both the filter and the spectrophotometry analysis. I have a procedure for analyzing aspirin content with a Spec 20 that we could adapt in place of the one on the PET site. (We need color to use the spec 20) But you should be able to quantify the aspirin content and generate a curve with your data.

As part of your grade, I would like for you to document your experiment in comments to this post. Take photos of each step (if it won’t let you upload them, email them to me and I will post them.

I would like for you to begin working on your wiki. You can divide the topics and each of you get the page started and then you can edit each others pages. You should make this something that will be useful to you in college. Post outlines, details, images, links to useful resources, etc.  Get together and decide on an inital layout, but remember that you can always change it if something isn’t working or you have better ideas as you go.

Comment on your progress in the wiki development and use this post as a place to document your ideas to me and each other.

Here is a link to Daniel’s blog from last year. (http://organicnotes.pbworks.com/)  Comment on what you like about it and ways that it could be more useful. Take a look at any of his links to see if they are good ones that you may want on your wiki.
